Call My People!

Call My People!
by Gary Woods

II always wanted to have people. Individuals who would do stuff for me that I didn't want to do for myself. Unfortunately that little dream hasn't quite worked out for me on a permanent basis but I came across a free iPhone App called AirRun that gives me people on an as needed basis.

The App is a little like Napster which was a P2P (Peer to Peer) Music Service but this is a P2P commerce service. When you download the App you register yourself and become a Seeker who is looking for somebody to do something for you. Once your request is posted, anybody in your area who wants to do the job you request at the price you offer can let you know that they can fulfill your request. You then decide whether to use that person or not and the assignment is made.

The people who fulfill these requests are called Runners and the key to the service is that only Runners in your area will be able to view your requests. To make this little bit of magic happen AirRun uses the advanced geo-location features of the iPhone. As Runners complete their tasks the Seekers can rate them so when you go to look for somebody to do something for you, you can at least get some idea of the person's qualifications. AirRun seems like a cool answer for both people looking for part time employment and individuals with short term jobs. At last, I finally have people.
