Cut Out the Middleman
by Gary Woods
Getting pictures off of your iPhone or iPad and onto your computer is kind of a clunky process. You can either Email them to yourself, which always seems a little weird to me or if you have it, you can send them to MobileMe. I wouldn't be without MobileMe but not everybody feels the need to pay Apple $99 per year.
So, thinking about this issue of moving my photos to my computer, I started poking around the App Store and came up with WiFi Photo Transfer which is a free App. After downloading the App I started it on my iPad and it displayed a URL which in my case was http://192.168.1.102:15555. I then opened Safari and entered the URL and up popped a page labeled Photo Magic HD with a list of all the photo libraries on my iPad.
When I clicked on one of the libraries all of the photos in library showed up with links on the page to either go "back to the libraries" or "Download in .zip." On the download page I could either select a range of photos like #28 to #31 or next to each photo was a checkbox that I could use to pick the photos I wanted downloaded.
After I selected the photos I wanted I clicked on Download and a File Download box popped up asking if I wanted to Open the pictures or Save them. When I chose Save, it asked me where they should be placed and instantly down they came. If you don't have an iPad there's also an iPhone version of the same App.
