It seems like lately all I’ve been writing about is Apple products so I thought I’d do something for the PC folks. If you’ve read my stuff for a while you know I love what are called utilities. These are little programs that usually do only one thing but do it really well.
The utility I’m looking at today is called File Marker and it’s designed for folks who love to have folders covering their desktop. That sea of manila colored folders would drive me nuts but some folks like to have everything they’re working on right on their desktop and they all swear to me they can find whatever they’re looking for.
If you’re one of these folks with files everywhere then File Marker (www.filemarker.net) is just what you’ve been looking for. You can have your adorable little folders on your desktop but each one can have a different color or numerical or alphabetic designation. They even have icons with different colored arrows for Urgent, Medium or Lower Priority.
The program allows you to color-mark a file add a label to it or use a combination of a color and a label. To open the utility right mouse click the file and click on the custom icon you desire and your selection is immediately applied.
One use I found for the program was to color code files for the different level of completeness at which each project resided. Red for get this going now, yellow for I’ve started it but not much has gone on. Blue for we’re cruising now and Green for its done!!!
There are 2 versions of File Marker. The free one which you can’t use at your office and has fewer icons as well as number and letter combinations and the pay one for $34.95 with all the bells and whistles. I recommend getting the free one then if you want more come on back and plunk down your cold hard cash.
