Fuel for the Fire

Fuel for the Fire
by Gary Woods

When we go on a trip I load up my iPad with a half a dozen movies which take up between 1 and 2 gigabytes each. This leaves the iPad kind of breathing heavily pushing its capacity about to the limit. It also doesn't leave much room on the Pad for my other files and music.

Our music library is stored on iTunes Match in the Cloud but that means I need an internet connection to get it and of course that would impact our data plan so I started looking for other ways of getting some more storage for the iPad.

What I came up with was the LaCie Fuel wireless portable 1 Terabyte hard drive retailing for $199.99 on Amazon. The drive has a 10 hour battery run time on a single charge which is long enough for most flights allowing you to access your data effectively creating a personal data cloud.

You can also use the Fuel as an access point for an existing Wi-Fi network or as a router for a wireless network. The Fuel is also AirPlay compatible so you can stream movies to TVs hooked up to an Apple TV box and it can also mirror that content on other iOS devices.

The device is not only wireless but it also has a USB 3.0 port so it can function as an external hard drive for Macintosh computers and allow users to sync files between Macs and the drive by way of Drop Box.

If you feel the need for a lot more storage for your iPad then the LaCie Fuel seems like a good option.
