I Luv 2 Shop!
by Gary Woods
We live in the greatest shopping age of all time. The Internet has made it possible for us to examine what to buy, where to buy it and how much to pay for the object of our desire easier than ever before. When we lived in Los Angeles the biggest upside was that whatever I wanted I could get that day and I had several options of where to purchase the product. But, when the Internet came along I could still get what I wanted within a day or two wherever I lived.
When I'm shopping I start by looking at reviews. Some of my favorite stops are http://froogle.google.com, http://shopper.cnet.com and my "go to" site http://www.amazon.com. There's a lot of cross-pollination between these sites with the same review showing up on several of them.
You've definitely got to be careful of some of the reviews you read because people can either be paid to write the review or some other people can have an axe to grind about a particular product. I know you'll be shocked but there are even some competitors who will write scathing reviews about other vendors.
Once I've identified a product I'll venture out to local outlets and hold the product in my grubby little paws. When I've made my decision to buy I always start by shopping the merchandise locally. If something goes wrong it's a good idea to have somebody nearby that you can talk to especially if you have to end up returning the purchase. Before I plunk down by hard earned cash I will check sites like http://www.overstock.com, http://www.nextag.com and http://www.dealcatcher.com. Just remember to add up the whole cost of the deal. Shipping can eat up a lot of the perceived savings you think you're getting.
