It's All in the Wrist
by Gary Woods
One of the cool parts of this writing gig is that people are always coming up to me and going, "check this out." This week's suggestion comes from Edwin Togami of the Mac Users Group who came up with Tour Wrist.
This free App for iOS devices allows you to seamlessly shoot, upload, view search and share 360 degree immersive spherical virtual tour photos and in the near future videos. With the app, iPhone owners are visually mapping the world with their Geo Tagged images so that you can tour remotely, virtually any place in the world.
When "touring" a locale, Tour Wrist uses your device's compass to display a 360 degree view of the site which users can swipe around using touch. If you want more interaction, users can turn on gyroscope and physically turn to see the surrounding environment, making you feel like you're standing on a beach or mountainside
Some of the tours I looked at weren't terribly exciting but the featured Tour of the Day usually has some interesting views. Realtors are definitely taking advantage of the app with houses for sale all over the place. Also there are a lot of Hotels that can be viewed virtually.
Tour Wrist is definitely a work in progress with some of the features like browse really not well implemented but hey, for free, its fun just to check out some of the places to plan your next vacation.
