Let's Get Down Loaded

Let's Get Down Loaded!

These days my iPad is never more than an arm's length away. I'm always surfing the net and finding all sorts of interesting stuff. If what I find is an article or a piece of information I can use later I use InstaPaper. This little $3.99 App which runs on the iPad, iPhone & iPod Touch allows you to capture a page and place it in a file which can be brought up on your computer, iOS devices, Kindle e-book readers or Android devices.

But, there are times when I don't want a web page; instead what I want is to download a file or program from the Internet. Some of those downloadable files like Word Docs, Excel Spreadsheets or Acrobat files work great on the iPad but there are times when what I want can't be delivered to a device.

In that case what I would do is copy and paste the URL for the download and then send it to myself to be picked up on my Mac and then downloaded. The copy and paste method is kind of cumbersome and I was glad to find something called Transloader 1.5.1. This $5 piece of software for the Mac from Eternal Storms Software ( works with a free iOS app to let you download, to your Mac, files that you come across on your iPhone or iPad.

How it works, is when you find a file you want download on your iPad or iPhone, you just copy the URL and then launch the Transloader iOS app. The app automatically detects that a URL is on the clipboard and asks if you want to add it to your Transloader queue. When you do that, the URL syncs over Apple's iCloud system and then when you go to your Mac the computer automatically downloads the file you want.

Transloader is a good, reasonably priced solution if you find yourself wanting to download files from the Internet that your iPad can't handle.
