NO More Dupes

NO More Dupes
by Gary Woods

When you start synchronizing your contacts with more than one device, particularly phones or iPads that you've used over time and have already input some of your contacts you end up with duplicates. Between multiple addresses, phone numbers and even different spellings of someone's name you'll have a bunch of people in your list more than once.

I usually recommend that someone use one device as a master and get that data correct then do a hard reset on the other devices and bring everything over from the pristine file to all the other locations. But that pruning of data on even one device can be daunting.

To deal with multiple entries I found an app for the iPhone called Duplicate Remover and Merger Pro. There's a free version in the App Store but if you want to drop the big money it'll cost you $2.99.The primary difference between the free and paid version is a feature called Trash Can which gives you the ability to restore contacts which have been automatically eliminated.

This little jewel removes identical duplicate contacts and merges similar contacts. It has support for MobileMe, Exchange or any non-local contact sources. Plus, you can search and delete duplicates separately in each Contact source group to avoid accidental data loss.

The app offers free live chat and e-mail support if you find yourself in over your head. Duplicate Remover and Merger Pro are a very cool solution to a very irritating problem when you start synchronizing everything in your office.
