One More Time Again!
by Gary Woods
I know I've bugged you about backing up your data before but I'm going to keep doing it until I'm reasonably sure you folks have got the message. There are a lot of backup solutions out there including online backup that's free or cheap and external hard drives that get cheaper all the time. One of my favorite backup solutions is Maxtor's One Touch. You plug it into your computer and an application launches which leads you through the setup of when and what you want to backup but it does take some time and skill to get it working properly.
Recently I found another solution that I think is even easier to make your backing up of files work. It's called Clickfree Transformer (www.clickfree.com) and plugs into any USB external hard drive and then into your PC. The external USB hard drive is sold separately but the Clickfree Transformer retails for $60.
When you plug in the device, a backup application auto-launches and starts a countdown to begin an automatic file backup of common file extensions like pictures, MP3s and doc files. You can stop the countdown and add more file types that the application doesn't recognize by default but the basic set of files is rather extensive.
If something happens to your data on the hard drive of your PC you can restore your data exactly the same way. You can choose to restore individual files or all of them if needed. The files are stored in plain view on the disk, not in some proprietary format you can't read.
I think the Clickfree Transformer is as easy as it gets, so how about backing up your stuff.
