Power Film Me

One of the things they tell you to do in an emergency is to have lots of fresh batteries. But sometimes the batteries you have are not all of the ones you want. You've got them for your radio, but your cell phone is left out in the cold and the SmartPhones and iPhones don't last real long even on a full charge.

If the sun is shining one solution you could use is from a company called PowerFilm They are a developer and manufacturer of thin, flexible solar panels based on a proprietary low cost production process. The company's objective is to target the building integrated solar power market and to continue to supply products for selected portable and remote solar power applications.

One product that interested me was the AA Foldable Solar Charger which is an ultra compact, ultra lightweight and yet very durable device. It will charge either 2 AA batteries in 3 1/3 hours of full sun or 4 AA batteries in 6 2/3 hours of full sun.

The lightweight solar panels are integrated directly on a fabric, keeping the weight of the charger to less than four spare batteries. It has six grommets that are built into the charger to allow for secure fastening to a pack or to the ground. For people using GPS units or cell phones PowerFilm Foldable Solar Chargers handle almost any charging needs from 5 to 60 watts.
