Road Trip, Part 2
by Gary Woods
When I start thinking about booking a trip I always start with Kayak Pro. This $0.99 app allows you to search through hundreds of travel sites for the best deals. It has not only flights but it can also help you find great deals on hotels and car rentals. Something that has really come on lately is baggage fees and with Kayak it can search what each airline charges for this service. Once you've purchased your tickets through the app you can take advantage of the flight tracker and itinerary management tools and to top it all off it includes terminal maps for over 100 airports around the world.
If $0.99 is too rich for your blood than Orbitz has a free app from which you can book flights, hotels and car rentals and it has a very cool little "nearby tonight" feature that allows you to book last-minute rooms.
Expedia Hotels & Flights is another free app that you can use to book hotels and flights and this app features real-time itineraries with notifications and mobile bookings that can help you earn Expedia Rewards points.
Then, if you don't have enough William Shatner in your life then you should check out Priceline Hotels, Flights and Car. This app also allows you to book hotels, flights and car rentals but the wrinkle it offers is that if you don't like the prices you see you can bid under the listed price using the Name Your Own Price feature.
Next week we'll look at apps that you can use once you're where you're going!
