Road Trip, Part 8

Road Trip, Part 8
by Gary Woods

To finish off my Road Trip extravaganza we'll look at guides for Rome. Now that you're such a savvy traveler you'll definitely want the inside scoop so what you need is the Rome Insider's Guide ($2.99). This guide was created by a veteran tour guide and travel consultant who spent a great deal of her childhood in Rome. The app lets you in on secrets usually gained through hard-earned experience and you'll learn tricks for saving money and avoiding lines.

Everybody can find the Trevi Fountain and Colosseum but if what you want to see is off the beaten path then you need Hidden Rome ($4.99). This guide keeps stock of Rome's lesser known treasures such as obscure museums, funky bars and even a spooky church decorated with skulls.

If what you really want to do is eat then there's Katie Parla's Rome ($2.99) written by a Rome based food critic and contributor to the New York Times, Bon Appetit and Food & Wine and Saveur. In the guide she chronicles 175 of her favorite restaurants and pizzerias

Finally if you'd just like to get out of Rome for a while then there's Rome Side Trips which is a free app. There are amazing medieval villages, hot springs and vineyards to be explored and this guide gives you over 250 possibilities along with trains, hotels and restaurants at all the destinations.

Well that's it, the end of my interminable Road Trip series. I hope you had as much fun reading it as I did writing it so have a great time on your vacation.
