Schlage is one the most respected names in home security. They've been making quality locks for a lot of years. At the Consumer Electronics Show I saw something called SchlageLink ( which takes home security to a whole different level.

What SchlageLink does is allow you to remotely monitor your doors and grant entry to your home. From any computer or cell phone with an internet connection, you can unlock your door, monitor who's coming and going and even receive text message alerts from the system.

What's more, because Schlage Link provides fully encrypted communication between the lock and the user (similar to the security used in on-line banking) your access to all online information is safe and secure.

In conjunction with Z-Wave Technology SchlageLink uses simple, reliable low-power radio waves that travel through walls, floors and cabinets to control most any electronic device in your house. Even devices that you wouldn't ordinarily think of as "intelligent" such as appliances, window shades, thermostats and home lightning can be controlled with this technology.

With SchlageLink and Z-Wave you can take complete command even when you're not at home. You can control your Z-Wave household remotely from a PC and the Internet from anywhere in the world. Or you can even use your cell phone to monitor and control your environment.

To try the system out there's a starter kit which consists of the lock a wireless bridge which communicates with the lock and your Z-wave device and 1 light module. This starter kit retails for $299.
