Sharing Is Good
by Gary Woods
When you're traveling most hotels these days have a WiFi Hotspot you can tap into for the outrageous sum of about $10 per day but what if you have a lot of different kinds of media on a whole raft of devices and drives.
A lot of us are carrying mobile storage devices including smartphones, tablets, USB flash drives and WiFi enabled cameras. To bring all that storage together D-Link came up with the SharePort Go DIR-506L retailing for about $130. The SharePort gives you the wireless protocols, B, B/G & the very zippy N on a 2.4GHz gateway.
With the device you can stream and share media to your mobile devices as it transforms any internet connection into a WiFi Hotspot. It can also stream media to iOS devices and Macs and it contains a rechargeable battery that charges over USB so you don't have to bring along yet another power adapter. You can even charge an iOS device simply by connecting it to the SharePort Go.
The DIR-506L also has a smaller cousin the DIR505L which retails for about $70 which also creates a WiFi hotspot and allows you to wirelessly access your media files from any USB drive with the SharePort Mobile App. The main difference between the two devices is that the 505 doesn't include all those extra WiFi protocols so it's not as fast.
If you're planning on traveling and you just can't leave all your devices at the house check out the D-Link SharePort 506 or 505L.
