The Paperless Office
by Gary Woods
When home computers first started getting popular there was a thought put forward that we would soon be living in a "paper-less" society. Well it became evident pretty darn quickly that if something could be printed it would be and probably several times over. Ever since the beginning we've been trying to cut down on the use of paper and ink but so far it hasn't worked out.
There are however a couple of programs that can at least downsize the amount of things we print. The first program I found was called GreenPrint Home and it cuts down on wasted paper and ink by making it fast and easy to identify and delete unwanted pages, text, or graphics in print jobs. The program installs as a printer so if you designate it as your default printer it automatically pops up each time your print and you can decide what you want to print and more importantly what you don't want. GreenPrint is available for a 14 day free trial at https://printgreener.com/buy.php and if you want to keep it the price is $29 or $35 if you want a CD.
The second program I found is HP Smart Web Printing and is a free download. The program combines portions of numerous web pages into one customized document so you get just what you want. The pages are scaled automatically which helps ensure that your printed copy contains all the information you see on the screen. To get the program, just go to http://www.hp.com and search for HP Smart Web Printing.
