The Sting of Battle!
by Gary Woods
A lot of you out there are addicted to games. Don't even bother denying because I can see you right through my computer. And by the way, put some clothes on. Anyway, games have become more and more realistic.
The visuals are absolutely amazing particularly in 3D and the sound with the addition of surround sound speakers or headsets allow the user to feel like they're right in the middle of the action. Some of the headsets even have microphones on them that allow the players to talk to each other in the middle of the game.
So what can possibly be missing from this astounding array of visual and auditory responses? Well what's missing is the feeling of the bullets hitting you in the middle of combat. To make this dream a reality a company called TN Games (www.tngames.com) has come up with a way to make 3D games feel more real. For a mere $189 you can get the 3rd Space FPS Vest PC gaming accessory which uses eight embedded contact points to mimic the sensation of being hit by bullets when you're playing a first person shooter.
The vest comes with a 3rd Space enabled version of Call of Duty II, and it supports Quake 3, Quake 4 and Doom 3 via free patches.
I wish I could write a bit more about the 3rd Space Vest, but arghhhhhhhhhh, I've just been hit. I'll get back to you later.
