They Don't Call!

They Don’t Call
by Gary Woods

I think I’ve written this column before, but after the hundreds of articles I’ve written for Casa and other publications I think I can repeat myself at least once. Today’s topic is about some of the scariest words in the English language, which are “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” As soon as you hear those words you know you’re in for all manner of grief. But, the calls I’m talking about are a little different they’re from people who call you up and offer to help.

The one call that’s going around a lot and triggered a phone call to me from one of my readers is, “I’m from Microsoft and I’m here to help.” Let me be very clear her. Microsoft DOESN’T CALL.  This one really made me mad because the other day a friend of mine got caught up in this scam and actually had that nice person on the phone downloading stuff on to her computer. When she called me for help I reminded her, she has a MAC there’s nothing Microsoft on her machine.

The second call that comes in and it comes in daily to us and probably you if you have a website is a Robo or automated Call from Google offering to put you on the front page of the Google search results. Once again let me say this, Google doesn’t make ROBO CALLS. Just hang up.

Then third call that the really is the scary one is from the “IRS” threatening all manner of evil on your life. Once again let me say this the IRS DOESN’T CALL. If you get a letter claiming to be from the IRS call your Tax Preparer and run it by them but if it’s a phone call and particularly if they want you to call back. DON’

Okay, there it is. If I’ve said it before it needed to be said again because these calls are going on everyday so protect yourself.
