Thou Shalt Not Pass!!

Trying to keep people out of your PDA can be tough. But to help you out I found some interesting programs. First up, Sign-Gate by Carrysafe LTD uses your signature to verify your identity. In case the application has trouble recognizing your handwriting; you can enter a password as a failsafe backup. Sign-Gate is available in a "Lite" version for $19.95 and a full version for $39.95 that adds an option that will automatically hard reset your device after three invalid access attempts.

Then, Nice Start ($9.90), from TransCreative displays a log-in screen similar to one you might see on your desktop. The screen not only allows you to enter your password, it displays a calendar, as well as memory and battery statistics. It also supports "skinning" (creating customized color schemes and graphics for the start up screen.)

Another piece of software is 1-Pass ($19.99) by Omega One. The software defaults to using a hardware button sequence to unlock the device. For example, you can program 1-Pass to unlock the device by pressing the Contacts button, then the Calendar, and then the Voice Record. This is much faster than entering a PIN number and allows you to use only one hand.

If they make it through your password protection there's PocketLock ($19.95) from Applian Mobile Inc. which allows you to encrypt files and folders. When you launch the software a clear menu provides a simple set of options for encrypting and decrypting files and folders.
