We're Not Worthy

We're Not Worthy
by Gary Woods

Okay, like everybody else I was pretty bummed that we didn't get an iPhone 5 from Apple but merely an iPhone 4S so I thought I'd sit back and figure out why we were treated so shabbily by our beloved Apple. When I looked at it, the bottom line is that the iPhone 5 is going to be a 4G phone and at this point 4G networks despite what they tell you on TV every night aren't really ready. Oh, all the wireless companies have 4G capability in various stages of deployment and protocol peculiarities but for most of the country and certainly the world 4G is still a ways out there. So, when I say "we're not worthy" really what I'm saying is 4G isn't ready for prime time yet and if you want to blame somebody, blame the telcos.

After all that cogitation I decided to look at what we got in the iPhone 4S not what we didn't get with an iPhone 5. Well guess what, it's essentially everything that the iPhone 5 would have been without 4G. The A5 processor is there so everything is going to work twice as fast with the graphics jumping out at an amazing 7 times faster than their current display capacity. Second, the camera took a giant leap forward. The new lens is gorgeous and the pictures can be shot at a much faster rate than any other camera that's included with a phone. Third, you add in the new iOS 5 operating system with iCloud synching all our docs, photos, music and that's a phone that makes a big leap forward.

Finally, you add in Siri which is the voice activated protocol that allows us to create appointments, check our stocks, call up tunes and do all matter of incredible stuff and the iPhone 4S starts looking like a great package. So, for me, until the wireless carriers get their acts together with 4G the iPhone 4S looks like a great phone, you can count me in.
