Where's My Phone??
by Gary Woods
One of the worst feelings you can have is when you're rushing around to get out of the house and you can't find your phone. To help you with this problem several of the manufacturers have come up with some cool little apps which are either free or cheap.
For the Android Market there's something called "Where's My Droid?" This free app allows you to text your phone with a word or phrase you design, the default is "wheres my droid" and even if your phone is on silent it will turn on the ringer to its loudest setting and it will ring for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.
For the Blackberry folk the best free option is "Where's My Phone" available from the App World store as a feature-limited version. With the free version, you can trigger a loud alarm via email and for the $4 paid version you also get more features like GPS location.
For the iPhone, yes there is an App for that, there's the 99 cent app called Beep My Cell. But the twist with this version is that instead of relying on a text message to trigger the beeping you log in to beepmycell.com and click Beep My Cell to start up the ringer.
Then, for the Windows Mobile crew there's Phone-Finder with Google Maps. For $1.50 the app causes Phone-Finder to kick on the ringer and transmit the phone's GPS location. So there you go, if you can't find your phone now it's not my fault.
