Work in Progress
by Gary Woods
My one cardinal rule has always been that I never write about a product that doesn't exist. When I go to trade shows vendors are always telling me about stuff that's only 30, 90 or 180 days away. I've learned that 30 days means 90, 90 days means 180 and 180 days means we have no idea if it'll ever work. Okay, that said I'm about to violate my rule.
The product I read about was from Mipwr Dynamo and is a protective iPhone Case and backup battery with a hybrid charger all in one compact and sleek looking design. The case has a 400 mA battery along with a concealed push lever that when pumped generates electricity to charge the internal battery. For everyone minute of actuating the push lever within the case the user will produce enough power for 30 seconds of talk time or texting.
The implications obviously are staggering during an emergency. Your cell phone may be the one thing that could save your life and your battery is gone and if you have no way to get it charged you've got a real problem.
Anyway, the company is trying to raise money to manufacture the product by doing a crowdfund campaign on Kickstarer. They're trying to raise $78,000 to cover the costs of manufacturing the product and giving iPhone users around the world the opportunity to help bring Mipwr to market. For a pledge of $25 backers will be able to do two things: help Mipwr reach its funding goal and pre-order their own Mipwr case.
If you think this is a worthy goal, and I make no recommendations one way or the other, then check them out at www.mipwr.com or like them on Facebook and follow Mipwr on Twitter.
