You've Got the Power!!
by Gary Woods
I Everything runs on batteries. And, what's the thing that batteries do best?? They run down, that's what they do! Now everybody knows we can't be without our tunes for very long, so I thought it was a good time to look into getting more power to our iPods.
The first thing I found was a couple of battery extenders from iLuv (www.i-luv.com). They've got the i603 for the 30GB video iPods and the i604 ($65) for the 60GB video iPods. These two devices enclose your iPod, providing protection, but they also add quite a bit of bulk. The i604 will give you almost 60 hours of music and more than 13 hours of movie playback on a 60GB unit. The i603 for the 30GB iPod gives you slightly less play time also for $65.
If you don't need quite that much play time there's the TuneJuice ($20) from Griffin Technology (www.griffintechnology.com). This little device is a little bitty thing and uses a single 9-volt battery to provide about four hours of music playback time to a dead iPod or eight additional hours to an iPod that's still running on its own.
Finally if you spend time on airplanes there's the iAirPlay by Monster Cable (www.monstercable.com). This unit can power and charge an iPod from a special power plug provided in many newer airplanes as well as from an accessory jack adapter in cars. For $30 you could get a charge in a lot of places.
